risotto and steamed ground beef

This past week, Grace made risotto and steak: (Gracie: Classic Wong combination, a la Elizabeffy)

Great risotto with portobello mushrooms (G: Why thank you. For some reason- this risotto always turns out better with red wine than white wine, even though the recipe calls for white- Guess mushrooms pair better with red.). Even though I mocked the “Nolan Ryan” steak, it was well marbled, and made for a very tasty and juicy steak bite (G: Peh. I don’t care about the name if it’s marbled and cheap. This was on clearance too. HA.) . I used lots of paprika and cayenne pepper to season it. I liked it, but it went straight to Daddy’s sinuses. (G: Isakey and his pepper. GRR.)

Mommy made her traditional steamed ground beef:

This is comfort food for me (G: same here), one of the few dishes that mommy makes that I look forward to. It’s 1 lb of ground beef steamed in the rice cooker while it is cooking. It is first mixed with a package of onion soup and soy sauce, and it turns into a delectably salty and greasy sung sung that must be eaten with steamed rice. (G: Serious must. Don’t use ultra lean meat, the grease will collect on the sides and you can pour it out, if it’s lean, it’ll just have the wrong texture, don’t use sugar, and the difference between salt and soy sauce is indeed very noticeable.)

  1. The dishes look and tasted yummy. The paprika and cayenne pepper in the “Nolan Ryan” steak also made me feel “hot” and made me sweat. But the steak tasted great! I would add a bit of salt to my steak. 🙂
